Hargreaves Associates worked with Alexandria Real Estate Equities and RMJ Hillier Architects in association with the New York Economic Development Corporation to develop the first biotech campus in New York City. The Alexandria Center for Science at East River Science Park includes 542,000 square feet of office and lab space as well as new inviting streetscape that leads visitors and the public up to a mid-block elevated 1.5 acre plaza and garden above a 620 car parking garage. A unique paving pattern, inspired by fractals and cellular biology, unifies the site – the narrow street entry and the plaza – leading the public into a sculptural garden and café area with views of the East River and the 59th Bridge. The public plaza includes new trees throughout plus elevated planting beds creating a garden like setting with a variety of seating options.
