George Hargreaves

George Hargreaves has directed the design of the firm’s renowned portfolio of built projects, which have received over 100 national and international awards and have been published and exhibited extensively around the globe. Mr. Hargreaves has served on numerous prestigious design juries and has lectured throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia. He taught at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University for 20 years, serving as the chairman of the Department of Landscape Architecture from 1996 to 2003. He was a finalist for the Cooper Hewitt National Design Awards in 2002 and an Artist in Residence at the American Academy of Rome in 2009. He is the co-editor and author of “Large Parks,” a book that explores large urban parks in depth as complex cultural spaces, where key issues of landscape discourse, ecological challenges, social history, urban relations, and place-making converge; and co-author of “Landscapes & Gardens”, which features the firm’s smaller scale work and celebrates the power of landscape and gardens to impact our everyday lives. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
