STANFORD UNIVERSITY - SCHOOL OF MEDICINE MASTER PLAN

PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA

The Stanford University School of Medicine (SoM) Master Site Plan was commissioned to study the development options for the SoM over the next 15 years as it undertakes a major Capital Plan. This Capital Plan includes the construction of a new Learning and Knowledge Center (LKC), the Stanford Institutes of Medicine (SIM) 1,2 and 3, and the redevelopment of the Edwards, Lane, Always and Grant buildings within the Stone Complex. The School of Medicine Open Space Concept establishes a framework for the development of a unified, cohesive and operational campus with a unique identity at Stanford University. The Open Space Concept specifically addresses issues of program and character as well pedestrian and vehicular circulation. In keeping with Stanford University’s rich landscape history, the Open Space Concept presents a landscape compatible with the Stanford campus, its established landscape traditions, local climate and the existing landscape vocabulary of the SoM and medical center.
