Set in the Rocky Mountains at an altitude of 8,700 feet, the Smith Residence afforded a unique opportunity to apply new technologies and materials in response to a rugged, yet spectacular site. Mechanically stabilized earth retention technology allows a series of outdoor terraces on a steep hillside without retaining walls, eliminating the need for guardrails and thus allowing for unobstructed views of the spectacular surrounding mountains.
