The winning entry of an international competition, this student recreation center on the Corniche frontage of the American University of Beirut is a collaboration of architecture, landscape architecture and engineering. With Vincent James Associates Architects, Hargreaves Associates divided the project program into pavilions, roof terraces, passages and courtyards that cascade down the garden hillside of the campus to the sea. The design is a response to the landscape and topography of the campus and creates a diversity of microclimates based on the belief that the best spaces for socializing and learning are to be found at the intersections of architecture, landscape, climate and culture.
