The MIT / Kendall Open Space is a green oasis tucked behind Main Street, and constructed over an extensive underground garage structure. The central open space extends MIT’s famed “Infinite Corridor” with a dynamic paving pattern and in-ground lighting. Lawns, urban gardens, plazas, and “program rooms” with custom platforms slip along this civic promenade to offer places to sit, gather, celebrate, and play below a broad urban forest that allows a multitude of uses from outdoor movies to innovation busking – bringing the technological innovation occurring within the buildings of MIT and Kendall Square out into the public realm.
