Situated in a reclaimed landscape ravaged by hydraulic dredge mining in the 1850’s, this three-acre park’s design is expressive of the site’s history while being responsive to local climate and contemporary culture. A central feature of the project, the Grove provides a cool outdoor room, a gathering place, and an amphitheater centered on a fog fountain in a ring of towering redwoods. The plaza and its landforms recall the dredge tailings of the site’s past and provide refuge from the traditional office environment for workers from the surrounding buildings.
